[image of qasim missing] Welcome to the first-ever issue of our Joomlasphere email newsletter!

Some of you may have subscribed @ one of the Joomlasphere network sites (Why Joomla?, Joomlafeed or Joomlajobs) over the past year or so - sorry for not getting cracking on sending these out; to be honest, I've been waiting until our relaunch of Joomlajobs - which was supposed to be early '07, but well, ahem... :)

The plan entails sending out at least a couple of these newsletters a month; to provide a regular update on what's happening in the wonderful world of Joomla. The content of each issue will include news snippets, practical Joomla tips, tricks and rants plus new job and gig listings!

Its an exciting time in the Joomla world as the core team is working hard to stabilise the code on Joomla 1.5, and it looks like this is due to happen in the next few weeks! With the new platform a lot of sites will need upgrades - I'll be posting a bunch of info to aide that process @ Why Joomla but in order to help the pros step in I'm proud to announce that Joomlajobs is live once again; the site's been completely overhauled and is now a really simple interface for posting job and gig listings - details are below.

Please pass this email on to anyone you think would dig it! If you've been forwarded it, you can sign up @ our main site.

Ciao for now,

Qasim./

Joomla Jobs - The job and gig network for joomla professional firms, freelancers and employers!

http://www.joomlajobs.net

[logo] Originally launched towards the end of 2006, Joomlajobs was the result of us at Design Guru being fed up with all the junky bloated websites for posting jobs - both in situations where we needed subcontractors/freelancers for projects as well as when we where looking for work, it was just a headache - one that we were committed to making dissappear.

The plan was simple; create a really easy to use website that lets people post either long-term or short-term positions for project work. We called those 'jobs' and 'gigs' and set out to make the site using Joomla 1.0x and Mosets Tree - a 3rd party extension for directory listings used at J!ED, among other places. In addition to just posting listings, we also conceived a community developing around professional Joomla work and wanted to support it - so the original site used Community Builder as well.

Though we managed to build a decent site, after a few months or trying to redesign it using various other components, we couldn't avoid the fact that Joomla just wasn't the right platform for the site's functionality... which resulted in it being offline for a while. Well, it took a while to make the decision but we ended up completely building a new Joomlajobs from scratch using Drupal! Yes yes, many Joomla die-hards will balk at that but heck, at the end of the day we've made an extremely powerful listings site that's still Open Source, easy to use and modular; so we can add functionality in time as its community requires!

If you work with Joomla as a professional freelancer, development firm, designer, employer or anything else, make sure you pay a visit to http://www.joomlajobs.net and:

Is Joomla! 1.5 RC3 really a release candidate ?

Written by Jinx
Sunday, 21 October 2007

In the last two weeks after the release of RC3 I have seen this question popping up on forums and mailing lists. I have seen complaints about RC3 being more of a break in development then a real release candidate. Some people seem to feel that we are still adding features and making functionality changes.

In this post I will try to give, in all honesty and openness, a status update on development and provide an answer to this question.
